Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician works through-out the facility and grounds as needed performing tasks and developing, managing and administering systems to support a heavy steel and fabric fabrication facility. The position is responsible for hands-on facility and equipment maintenance as well as developing and managing maintenance support systems including, but not limited to: PM program, work order system, equipment manuals, tool/equipment inventory, etc. Position requires the ability to perform very physical labor, flexibility in work tasks and the ability to work daily and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and administer a Preventive Maintenance (PM) program to ensure the proper care and maintenance of facility, equipment and tools. Ensure daily, weekly and monthly PM schedules are completed to expectations and accurate records are maintained. Ensure detailed information is maintained on each piece of equipment including PM schedules and maintenance records.

  • Develop and administer a Work Order system to ensure the timely and effective completion of corrective maintenance issues, facility and equipment improvements, etc. Prioritize Work Orders as appropriate.

  • Maintain and repair, as needed, all facility equipment and support systems (air, electrical, etc.). Ensure the functional integrity, safety, and efficiency of equipment/systems are maximized. Coordinate activities with the area manager and/or supervisor.

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of maintenance related tools, parts, equipment and supplies. Ensure adequate inventory levels are maintained to facilitate timely repairs and minimize downtime.

  • Generate Purchase Orders for the purchase of tools, parts, equipment and supplies and forward to the Director of Operations for approval.

  • Maintain tool and equipment manuals in an organized manner. Ensure manuals are accessible to others as necessary.

  • Inspect Fire Extinguishers monthly. Ensure inspection records are current and extinguisher integrity and accessibility is maintained.

  • Ensure building and grounds are adequately maintained including, but not limited to: perimeter fencing, AC/furnace filters, light bulbs, ceiling tiles, plumbing systems, rodent traps, landscaping, etc.

  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe maintenance shop.

  • Correct, report and/or remove safety hazards as appropriate. Follow all safety procedures. Assist in training other employees in safely and effectively performing job functions as appropriate or as requested.

  • Perform new equipment installations as appropriate including, but not limited to: coordinating and/or completing installation activities, defining and implementing PM schedules and developing and conducting equipment-related training for affected employees.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years’ experience and proficiency in electrical and electronic systems, motor controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical systems and welding. Possess a working knowledge of control circuits, working with both single and three phase power systems. Possess a strong working knowledge of mechanical repairs and electrical trouble shooting/repairs.

  • Strong organization, communication and leadership skills.

  • Ability to read and understand operating and other technical manuals and communicate technical information in an easily understandable manner. Must be able to read electrical schematics and blue prints.

  • Ability to identify and implement creative, safe, effective and cost-effective solutions to maintenance issues.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees in various functional areas.

  • Requires ability to comply with and enforce established policies and procedures.

  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (including daily and weekend overtime when needed) and adapt to changing work assignments and conditions.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing manufacturing environment with ambient temperatures.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
