Nutrien Potash Mine Storage Building

Durable Equipment & Supply Storage Built for Harsh Mining Conditions

20200822_125120.jpg

Mining operations require storage infrastructure that can protect critical equipment and supplies while performing reliably in demanding environments.

For the Nutrien project in Rocanville, Saskatchewan, the site required a durable building for equipment and supply storage in an environment exposed to extreme temperatures and challenging mining conditions.

The objective was clear:

Provide reliable storage infrastructure engineered for the demands of a potash mining environment while delivering the durability, access, and structural performance required for Saskatchewan conditions.

Infrastructure Built for Demanding Potash Mining Environments

The Operational Requirement

Site Required:

A 100' x 200' L18 Centurion building for equipment and supply storage

Site Required:

Durable materials capable of performing in a demanding potash mine environment

Site Required:

Reliable access for equipment and materials

Site Required:

Structural performance engineered for Saskatchewan snow and wind loads

Site Required:

Added protection in high-wear areas for long-term durability

The project called for more than simply creating covered storage. The building needed to provide a stable, durable environment suited to the conditions of an active potash mining operation.

Without infrastructure designed for these conditions:

• Extreme weather can challenge structural performance
• Potash mining conditions can increase corrosion concerns
• Equipment and material access can become more difficult
• High-wear areas require additional durability
• Long-term building performance can be affected

Why It Mattered

Equipment and supply storage at a potash mine must perform in an environment where extreme temperatures, severe weather, and corrosion are important considerations.

The Nutrien building needed to provide:

• Reliable protection for equipment and supplies
• Corrosion-resistant structural components
• Efficient access for equipment and materials
• Durability in high-wear areas
• Structural reliability under regional snow and wind loads
• Fire-resistant fabric for industrial use

Each element of the building was selected around the demands of the site and the long-term performance Nutrien required.

The GNB Buildings Solution

GNB Buildings delivered a 100' x 200' L18 Centurion engineered for equipment and supply storage at Nutrien's Rocanville potash mine.

The building was designed to provide:

• Galvanized steel trusses and cadmium hardware for superior corrosion resistance
• Protective coatings in high-wear areas to meet Nutrien's specific durability requirements
• Fire-resistant HDPE fabric for safety compliance and long-term industrial performance
• Regional snow and wind load engineering for Saskatchewan's extreme weather conditions
• Concrete block foundation providing a stable and durable structural base
• Two 16' x 16' electric overhead doors for efficient equipment and material access

The result is a storage structure designed around the realities of the site—from harsh weather and corrosion concerns to daily equipment and material movement.
